As Jonathan and I were going to be hosting Thanksgiving and had a weekend of fun planned for my 28th birthday, we needed to figure out a way to hide my pregnancy from our friends. I had been sick the week leading up to Thanksgiving so I figured I would use that as my excuse. Along with Jonathan secretly drinking my wine at dinner, and ordering non-alcoholic beers when we went to the bars for my birthday we were able to keep our secret.
I scheduled a doctor appointment for the week after Thanksgiving but had to get through a visit from Jonathan's parents and sister before I would confirm everything with the doctor. We did a good job of keeping it a secret, but I was anxious to go to the doctor.
Our first appointment showed I was pregnant, but it was too early to see a heart beat. They set my due date as August 9, 2014 and told me to come back the first week of January. Throughout the next couple of weeks we had to decide if we would tell anyone whole we were visiting my family in Ohio for Christmas. We decided to tell my sisters Molly and Lindsey so they could help keep our secret. In my family we are partiers - and if I wasn't drinking everyone would assume I was pregnant. We did a pretty good job keeping the secret, even though Molly's boyfriend Chris figured it out my first day in town - before Molly even knew.
When we went to our appointment in January and saw this little peanut for the first time my heart melted. We were so excited to see the heart beat and our baby growing. I couldn't wait to tell everyone!
At just past 9 weeks we decided to tell the rest of our immediate family. We didn't get a video of telling Molly or Lindsey, but made sure to video the reaction of our parents, Bridget and Finn. We sent packages and asked them to FaceTime us before opening the gifts. They were all surprised and excited.
Jonathan put the videos together and made the announcement that we put on Facebook to tell everyone we were pregnant when we reached the 12 week mark.
Our family and friends were so excited for us. Our parents couldn't wait to be grandparents for the first time, and our siblings were excited to be Aunties and Uncles. Jonathan and I couldn't wait to be parents.
